However, many people do not know or understand that there is so much missing information, and are acting on what little they are told from the news and other media. These folks do not Know that they are under-informed, but these “actions without knowledge” are causing a serious disconnect between home sellers, home buyers and Realtors®. This disconnect is caused by the under- and mis-information offered by the media … what I call the Housing Market Media Myths.

Over the next three posts/articles, I would like to take this opportunity to dispel a few of these housing market media myths …

Myth #1: There is a National Housing Market crisis.

No. This is almost a straw-man argument. To even answer this statement you must believe that there is even a “National Housing Market” … which could not be further from the truth. No two housing markets are the same. Not state-to-state. Not city-to-city. Not even neighborhood-to-neighborhood. If there really IS a housing market crisis, it must be evaluated on a cellular level and never lumped into one big national market.

If you visit the Active Rain Real Estate Community and read for even just a couple minutes, you will see that the housing market in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the housing market in Las Vegas, Nevada and the housing market in Poinciana, Florida are no more alike than a basketball, an pear tree and a pencil. Some markets are flooded with listings, some markets are losing buyers and some are holding their own, quite well. Even the most similar of housing markets have unique things about them that make them different.

If you are concerned about your local housing market, don’t read the paper and don’t rely on the news to educate you. A competent real estate agent who truly knows and understand the local housing market should be able to tell you how your neighborhood fits into the grand scheme of things and what you need to get your home sold – regardless of the current market conditions.
