Things to Do - Break the Law by Hiking Manitou Incline

I will neither confirm nor deny our actions, the other day…

But here are some pictures from our trip to the Manitou Incline. However, before I continue, here are some info on the Manitou Incline:

  • The Manitou Incline used to be a railroad track. The rails are no longer there, but most of the ties are still in place.
  • The average grade is about 40%, and the steepest grade is 68%!
  • The complete hike is 1 mile long and ascends over 2,000 feet in altitude.
  • The first 1/4 of the incline is owned by the City of Colorado Springs and the last 1/4 is owned by the Forest Service.
  • The middle section is PRIVATE PROPERTY and to cross the signs and continue the hike is TRESPASSING … and  ILLEGAL.
  • Regardless of this fact, DROVES of people (athletes and non-athlete’s alike) trek up the Manitou Incline every clear day.

For as steep as the incline is, the hike TO the incline (from the parking lot - or where we parked …. further down Ruxton Avenue) is QUITE the workout as well.

Okay … Onto the Pictures:

Things to Do in Colorado Springs - Hike Red Rock Canyon

The first day of Daylight savings (yesterday) our family went for a hike in Red Rock Canyon. Our oldest son had been there during Summer camp once, but we had not ever experienced Red Rock Canyon.

WOW.

For as long as we have called Colorado Springs “home” we had never experienced Red Rock Canyon… and it is in our OWN backyard! (I guess  we are all guilty of that sometimes …) There are places for off-leash dogs, bicycle riding and massive amounts of easy, intermediate and advanced hiking trails. We spent over 2 hours on the easy and intermediate trails, taking in the beauty of the Red Rocks and the Blue Sky …

Pictures of Colorado Springs from Mariana Wagner of the Wagner iTeam

The Wagner iTeam is a Colorado Springs Real Estate team. In addition to taking pictures of homes for sale in Colorado Springs for our team, I also love taking pictures of Colorado Springs. We live in such a beautiful part of the world, and there is always something awesome to snap a photo of.

I post the pictures of Colorado Springs that I take on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/ColoradoSpringsRealEstate

And the especially good ones, I will also post to our new Colorado Springs Picture Blog: ColoradoSpringsPix.wordpress.com (Occasionally, I will post other local Colorado Springs photographer’s photos on this blog, as well - with their permission of course…)

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of Colorado Springs:

And here is a picture of a sunset in Pueblo, Colorado:

Hey Bob … THIS is Pikes Peak.

In case you were wondering … THIS is Pikes Peak … and it is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Read More about the “The Republican U.S. Senate candidate [Bob Schaffer] on Wednesday [who] unveiled his first television ad, with the theme “Colorado is my life.” “I proposed to my wife, Maureen, on top of Pikes Peak,” Schaffer says in the ad, gesturing behind him as the couple’s picture appears with a snow-covered mountain in the background.

The mountain pictured in the ad, though, isn’t Pikes Peak; it’s Mount McKinley in Alaska.”

LOL.

Colorado Springs Neighborhoods See May Snowfall … Geesh. Enough Already!

In Colorado Springs, it is often said, ˜If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.

Example:

  • Yesterday, April 30, 2008, it was almost 80 degrees out. I was wearing a tank top and flip flops.
  • Today, May 1, 2008, it is snowing. I mean REALLY snowing…  (View from my home office)

May 1, 2008: 9:00am

May 1, 2008: 9:15am

May 1, 2008: 9:30am

May 1, 2008: 9:40am

And this is not just a little snow. This is sideways-blowing, sticks to everything SNOW. - in May.

I love the fact that Colorado Springs has such diverse weather, but I am really sick of the snow and am really ready for Spring. Please?

Update: May 1, 2008: 10:45am Blue Skies? SUN?!?
