Selling Your Colorado Springs Home: How to Keep Your Home Clean During Showings-Provide Shoe Covers

If you have a home for sale in Colorado Springs I am certain that you want a bunch of showings. If you have it priced your home correctly and your Colorado Springs real estate agent has taken a bunch of great pictures to add to the MLS and other real estate advertising, then you SHOULD expect to get a bunch of showings.

If you are getting a lot of showings in the current Colorado Springs Real Estate market, the last thing you want is for mud (and snow) to be tracked all throughout your well-maintained and super-clean home, right? Of course.

I just set 15 showing appointments for homes for sale in Colorado Springs and Monument. Almost every homeowner requests that we remove our shoes to show the home. Completely understandable. Colorado Springs has seen a bit of snow and wet weather these past couple weeks, and no one wants mud all throughout their home – especially when they are keeping their home nice enough to sell.

Derek and I have shown enough homes in our career as a top real estate agents in Colorado Springs to know these 3 things:

  1. Wear shoes that are easy to take on and off
  2. Wear matching socks that do not have holes in them
  3. Make sure our feet don’t smell funny

Unfortunately, not all real estate agents and not all home buyers understand this. Too many home buyers (and even their agents) will ignore the request to remove shoes – especially (and ironically) in inclement weather when lacing and re-lacing boots again and again, home after home can be such a hassle. And if there is a buyer who may be embarrassed by their sock/foot condition, they will NEVER remove their shoes.

As a home seller in Colorado Springs or Monument you need to offer another option to “Please Remove Shoes” to potential home buyers – not only as a convenience to the buyer, but as assurance that your floors will be saved from mud (and snow).

In addition to requesting shoes to be removed, you should offer the option of wearing booties (reusable shoe covers). This is a CHEAP option that will ensure that more people will respect your clean floors.

Ask you listing agent if they have 5-10 pairs of shoe covers that you can leave in a basket in your foyer/entry. If they do not have any then you can pick some up at a local office supply store, medical supply store or home improvement store (like Home Depot or Lowe’s). Or, you can get some online:

In addition to showing that you care about your home for sale, this small investment in shoe covers also tells potential home buyers that you respect their time and need for convenience.
