Woodmen and Powers Intersection Now Has A Bridge!
If you live in Colorado Springs, you know that Woodmen Rd. is the only “real” East/West thoroughfare, and Powers Blvd. is one of the only “real” North/South thoroughfares (2nd only to I-25). You will also know that the intersection of Woodmen Road and Powers Boulevard has been a construction nightmare for months … I remember being stuck in traffic at that one particular intersection for over a 1/2 hour, on more than one occasion! UGH!
Well, as of the wee hours of this morning (Dec. 4, 2007), Southbound Powers travelers now have the luxury of avoiding the intersection at Woodmen all together, as the first part of the new bridge has opened to traffic!
You better believe that we are excited!
On my way from my northeastern Colorado Springs home this morning, I headed Northbound on Powers, where I saw some of the very first cars driving over the new bridge. My trip home involved making SURE I got to drive over the new bridge. And how liberated I felt that I was able to avoid that intersection!
City Planners have said that the dead center of Colorado Springs (in 2025) will be the intersection of Woodmen and Powers, so it is awesome that they are making Powers an On-Ramp/Off Ramp type of road/highway, now. Planners also say that the complete intersection will be done sometime in 2009, but (for once) we may get it done earlier!
This newly designed intersection is such great news for the Colorado Springs Real Estate Market, as most new home communities in Colorado Springs (Stetson Hills, Wolf Ranch, Cumbre Vista, Wagon Trails and Briargate) are accessed by either Woodmen or Powers. A more effective road design will make driving and living in Colorado Springs much easier!
